The McNeese State University Foundation is a voluntary non-profit organization of business and professional leaders. It was incorporated in 1965 to establish scholarships for McNeese students and to enhance education to ensure academic excellence. The Foundation has at present a trust fund valued in excess of $53,000,000 and annual awards over $1,000,000 in scholarships, faculty development awards, and academic enhancements. The office of Development and Public Affairs acts as a liaison to the Foundation. The Foundation’s purpose is to solicit, receive and administer funds of all kinds, including property both real and personal, by way of outright, limited or conditional gifts, grants and bequests.

Need for Foundation and Support

The Foundation provides additional scholarships, faculty grants, endowed chairs, professorships and research fellowships. Faculty development is a priority with funds being set aside for continuing study and research. Enrichment funds are made available to other campus facilities and academic services. The request for contributions to the endowment fund comes from the Board of Directors of the Foundation.

The state tax identification number of the university is 101-90-2409, and the federal tax identification number of the Foundation is 72-6029144. The Foundation Office is located in the Burton Business Center, Room 439, on the McNeese campus and can be reached by calling (337)475-5588.

Charitable Gift Planning

Our office of Charitable Gift Planning allows for the tailoring of one’s philanthropy in view of future estate plans. Depending on one’s needs and desires, such a gift could provide income tax deductions, estate tax deductions, an income for life, or a tax-free inheritance for heirs. Just as with other donations to the McNeese Foundation, Planned Gifts can be designated as the donor so chooses and can be made as a multi-year pledge or a single payment.

Endowed Professorships and Chairs

Endowed professorships and chairs provide McNeese with a way to reward excellence in the classroom and in scientific and creative research. These awards ensure that professors remain intellectually vigorous, current and enthusiastic about the subjects they teach. Established through the Foundation, endowed professorships are supported by a $100,000 endowment, and endowed chairs are supported by a $1,000,000 endowment. Each professorship consists of $60,000 in private contributions and a $40,000 matching grant awarded by the Louisiana State Board of Regents. Each chair consists of $600,000 in private contributions and a $400,000 grant awarded by the Louisiana State Board of Regents.
