Academic Scholarships for Full-Time Traditional Students
Academic scholarships are administered by the Office of Scholarships. The office coordinates the application, selection, and disbursement processes for academic scholarships and provides assistance to prospective and current students on scholarship availability. The application for academic scholarships is combined with the online Application for Admission, which should be completed during the fall of an applicant’s senior year of high school. The online Application for Admission, ACT/SAT scores, and a six-semester high school transcript must be submitted by December 1 for priority consideration for an academic scholarship. The online application is available by clicking on the link Application for Admission or by clicking the “Apply Now” tab at www.mcneese.edu.
Entering Freshmen: Scholarship recipients are notified beginning in December. Entering freshman scholarships are applicable beginning with the fall semester of the freshman year. Some scholarships are renewable provided the student meets certain established criteria.
- Scholar of Distinction Award. Awarded to outstanding Louisiana high school graduates. Scholarships are $4,800 (subject to change) per academic year. Selection is on a competitive basis of combined high school grades, ACT/SAT scores, and leadership qualities/potential. The awards shall be for a maximum period of four years provided the student earns a minimum of twelve hours and maintains a cumulative 3.0 grade point average each semester. Approximately 25 scholarships are available each year.
- H.C. Drew Foundation Scholarship. Awarded to students who major in one of the following disciplines: Accounting, Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences with a Premedicine concentration, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Finance, Education, Engineering, General Business Administration, General Studies (AGS), Marketing/Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Natural Resource Conservation Management, Nursing, Paralegal Studies, Radiologic Sciences, Science, and Sociology with a Family and Child Studies concentration. Selection is made on a competitive basis within applicable disciplines based upon high school grades and ACT/SAT scores. Amount and number of awards are subject to funding.
- Distinguished Achievement Award. Available to incoming freshmen who have achieved academic and leadership success. The award is typically $500-$2500 per year (subject to change) and may be renewable provided the student earns 12 hours each semester and maintains a 2.75/2.5 cumulative grade point average.
- McNeese Enrollment Management Scholarship. Available to first-time McNeese attendees. Selection is based on GPA, ACT/SAT, class rank, and/or other qualities which demonstrate the potential for success at the college level. Awards are renewable provided the student meets compliance criteria.
- McNeese Residence Hall Scholarship. Award amount varies and is renewable provided the student earns a 3.0 grade point average, remains in good standing with the University, resides in a residence hall, and purchases a meal ticket.
Transfer Students: A limited number of transfer scholarships are available. Students transferring to McNeese may apply for scholarships when completing the online Application for Admission.
Continuing Students: Scholarships are awarded to upperclassmen on a limited basis. Students are encouraged to file an Academic Scholarship Application with the Office of Scholarships.
Performance Scholarships (Music, Band, Art, Choral, Debate, Theater, Cheerleading, Cowgirl Kickers, Rodeo)
Students may be awarded scholarships for participation in music, band, art, choral, debate, theater, cheerleading, Cowgirl Kickers, rodeo and athletics. These scholarships are administered by the department, administrator, or coach of the program. For more information, contact the Office of Scholarships.
TOPS and Rockefeller Scholarships
The Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) and Rockefeller Scholarships are available to eligible Louisiana high school graduates. Information may be obtained from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance at www.osfa.la.gov or (800) 259-5626.
Vocational Rehabilitation
Vocational Rehabilitation is a public service program for persons who qualify for vocational rehabilitation services. Students should check with their high school counselor or the nearest Louisiana Rehabilitation Services Office.
McNeese Foundation and Private Donor Scholarships
A number of private donor awards, sponsored by private organizations, industry, the McNeese Alumni Association, and the McNeese Foundation, are available. The listing of McNeese Foundation Scholarships is located at mcneesefoundation.org/give. Application for McNeese Foundation and private donor scholarhsips should be made to the Office of Scholarships utilizing the McNeese Academic Scholarship Application.
