University Police

The mission of the McNeese State University Police Department is to provide a safe and hospitable setting by offering services that support the strategic plan of McNeese State University. It is our goal to advance the quality of the educational experience for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The University Police Department provides police services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to McNeese students, faculty, staff, and visitors. University police officers are trained in accordance with the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T) requirements and are commissioned by the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety in accordance with La. R.S. 17:1805. et seq. University police officers are cross-trained as Emergency Medical Responders (EMR). They also receive Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and specialized sexual assault response and investigation training.

Police officers are responsible for public safety services, such as crime reports; investigations; traffic accidents; parking violations; parking assistance; safety escorts; police protection; enforcement of laws regulating consumption of alcoholic beverages, the use of controlled substances, and weapons; and all other incidents requiring police assistance. Additional information can be found at www.mcneese.edu/police.

The University Police Department complies with the Campus Security Act. All crime statistical information is published and made available to students, faculty, staff, and parents by various means. This information can be obtained upon request from University Police at (337) 475-5711 or online at www.mcneese.edu/police/annual_security_reports.

Potential criminal activity, criminal activity, and other emergencies on the McNeese campus can be reported directly to University Police. For off-campus emergencies or when calling from a cell phone, the emergency number is 911. Officers are dispatched for initial investigations after receiving calls.

Emergency call stations are installed throughout the McNeese campus. The stations are designed with a single push button that activates an emergency blue light/strobe and establishes an immediate voice connection to McNeese police. The stations are set up for emergency means only. Routine calls should be directed to McNeese Police at (337) 475-5711. A map of the emergency station locations can be found online at www.mcneese.edu/police/parking.

Vehicle Registration

Information about McNeese parking regulations, including University traffic and parking regulations, is available online at www.mcneese.edu/police/parking.

To park on campus, students, faculty, and staff members must register a vehicle with the University Police Department. To register a vehicle for a parking permit, current state vehicle registration paper(s) must be presented to the University Police Department.

The registration fee per vehicle for faculty and staff is $5 for the year. The registration fee per vehicle for students is $18 for the fall semester, $17 for the spring semester, $15 for the summer session, $35 for fall/spring, or $40 for the year. Hang tags should be kept and presented each semester for renewal. A $35 fee is charged to replace a hang tag that is disposed of, lost, or stolen. Hang tags must be surrendered to University Police when students graduate, resign from the University, or employees separate from the University.

Registration of a vehicle does not guarantee a place to park; it allows parking if space is available. These rules and fees also apply to students enrolled in evening classes.
