ELEN 555 - Electrical Power Systems Analysis (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)


This course covers topics in AC and DC transmission such as the per unit concept of transformer and generator analysis, transient stability of power systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and protective relaying. Students will elarn power-flow and economic power dispatch using analytical techniques and power system simulators. The course will also discussbasic energy economics, efficiency and ethics of dynamic pricing and smart meters. Students will also be introduced to topics such as the smart grid with integrated renewable and distributed generation (i.e., photovoltaic and wind power).

Notes
No duplicate credit for ELEN 455 and ELEN 555.

Prerequisite: ENGR 354 or permission from the department head.
