Description
Examines suicide as it relates to licensed professional counselors, focusing on prevention, intervention, and postvention approaches. Emphasizes suicide epidemiology, underlying theory, and the identification of risk and protective factors. Familiarizes students with evidence-based practices and ethical considerations for working with suicidal clients, including insights from individuals with lived experience. Covers current state and national suicide prevention strategies and relevant policies. Develops skills in assessing and managing suicide risk, applying intervention and treatment techniques, and employing postvention strategies with survivors of suicide loss.
