Elementary Education Grades 1-5, PBC

Program Admission

By meeting the general requirements for admission and the following prerequisites, applicants can enroll in Portal I courses:

• Possess a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a USDOE-approved institutional accreditor; and
• Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 at the time of baccalaureate degree conferral.

Official admission into the program is contingent upon meeting the requirements for EDUC 499.

This program does not accept applicants on a conditional basis.

Term 1: Fall - 6 hours

Note:  EDUC 203 and EDUC 216 require 10 field experience hours each.

EDUC 499 packet must be approved prior to enrolling in EDUC and SPED 300/400 level courses.

Term 2: Spring - 6 hours

Note:  EDUC 316 and EDUC 327 require 20 field experience hours each.

• EDUC 316 - Reading Methods II Cr: 3
• EDUC 327 - Mathematics in the Elementary School Cr: 3
• EDUC 400 - Admission to Teacher Residency - Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Cr: 0

Term 3: Summer - 6 hours

Note:  EDUC 416 requires 20 field experience hours.

• EDUC 315 - Fundamentals of Planning Instruction Cr: 1
• EDUC 414 - Classroom Engagement and Management Cr: 2
• EDUC 416 - Diagnostic and Remedial Reading in the Elementary School Cr: 3

Term 4: Fall - 8 hours

Note:  EDUC 351 requires 10 field experience hours, EDUC 469 requires 20 field experience hours, and (EDUC 460E requires a minimum of 80% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 1-5 classroom completing residency hours, or EDUC 462E requires 100% of the instructional week in a grade 1-5 classroom as the teacher of record).

• EDUC 351 - Educational Measurements Cr: 3
• EDUC 469 - Field Study Project Cr: 2

  Choose one of the following:

• EDUC 460E - Student Teaching Residency I - PBC Cr: 3
• EDUC 462E - Internship Residency I - PBC Cr: 3

Term 5: Spring - 7 hours

Note:  EDUC 325 and EDUC 326 require 15 field experience hours each, and (EDUC 461E requires 100% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 1-5 classroom completing residency hours, or EDUC 463E requires 100% of the instructional week in a grade 1-5 classroom as the teacher of record).

• EDUC 325 - Science in the Elementary School Cr: 2
• EDUC 326 - Social Studies in the Elementary Classroom Cr: 2

• EDUC 461E - Student Teaching Residency II - PBC Cr: 3
• EDUC 463E - Internship Residency II - PBC Cr: 3

Note

Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses applied to the certificate.
