Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education Mild/Moderate for Secondary Education Grades 6-12 Concentration, MEd


Total Hours Required for Degree:  36

The Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education Mild/Moderate for Secondary Education Grades 6-12 Concentration, MEd program accepts new students only in the fall semester and is only offered 100% online.

Program Admission


In addition to the general requirements for admission  to the William J. Doré, Sr. School of Graduate Studies, applicants for admission to the Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education Mild/Moderate for Secondary Education Grades 6-12 Concentration, MEd program must have:

  • Evidence of a valid teaching certificate; and
  • One of the following:
    • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 at the time of baccalaureate degree conferral; or
    • Minimum undergraduate GPA between 2.7 and 2.99 at the time of baccalaureate degree conferral​ and a minimum Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score of 304 (Verbal + Quantitative).

The Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education Mild/Moderate for Secondary Education Grades 6-12 Concentration, MEd program does not accept applicants on a conditional basis.

Term 2: Spring - 6 hours


Note:  EDUC 601 requires 10 field experience hours, and (EDUC 505, EDUC 506, EDUC 507, or EDUC 508) requires 25 field experience hours.

Term 3: Summer - 9 hours


Note:  EDUC 608 requires 15 field experience hours, and SPED 623 and SPED 625 require 20 field experience hours each.

Term 4: Fall - 6 hours


Note:  EDUC 670 requires 10 field experience hours, and SPED 615 requires 20 field experience hours.

Term 5: Spring - 6 hours


Note:  EDUC 699 requires 10 field experience hours, and SPED 681 requires 20 field exeprience hours. 

General Notes


  • At least one-half of the total number of credit hours required for a graduate degree, excluding credit for thesis, must be at the 600 level.
  • Credits applied must be earned within 6 calendar years from the time the student first enrolled in the program.
  • No grade below C and not more than 6 credit hours of C work can be applied toward the degree.
  • Only transfer credits with a grade of B or better may be applied toward the degree.
