Environmental and Chemical Sciences, Integrative Biology Concentration, MS

Program Admission

In addition to the general requirements for admission  to the William J. Doré, Sr. School of Graduate Studies, applicants for admission to the Environmental and Chemical Sciences, Integrative Biology Concentration, MS program must have:

• A minimum score of 286 on the GRE (Verbal + Quantitative);
• A minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0;
• A Bachelor of Science degree in one of the sciences (or science education) and adequate preparation for a particular concentration as determined by the admissions committee and/or coordinator for the degree program;
• Two letters of professional recommendation from faculty members, professional colleagues, or work supervisors (send directly to program coordinator, Dr. Justin Hoffman, at jhoffman@mcneese.edu); and
• A 1-2 page essay detailing your professional goals, which should include your motivation for pursuing a graduate degree in biology as well as your long-term professional goals (send directly to program coordinator, Dr. Justin Hoffman, at jhoffman@mcneese.edu).

Applicants who do not meet the program admission requirements above may be considered for conditional admission in accordance with Graduate School admission standards. To have the conditional status removed, students must complete 12 graduate credit hours while maintaining a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, earning no more than one course grade of C, and no course grade lower than a C.

Notes

• All courses applied toward the degree must be approved by the major professor and the coordinator of the program.
• Prior to graduation, candidates are required to satisfactorily pass a comprehensive written and/or oral examination.
• Students who have background deficiencies may be required to take leveling courses that will not apply toward the Master of Science degree.

General Notes

• At least one-half of the total number of credit hours required for a graduate degree, excluding credit for thesis, must be at the 600 level.
• Credits applied must be earned within 6 calendar years from the time the student first enrolled in the program.
• No grade below C and not more than 6 credit hours of C work can be applied toward the degree.
• Only transfer credits with a grade of B or better may be applied toward the degree.
