CHEM 301 - Organic Chemistry I


Organic concepts initially based upon ideas met in General Chemistry. Structural theory, nomenclature, reaction types and energetics, structure-property relationships, functional groups/families, acid-base chemistry, the hydrocarbons, stereochemistry, and SN & E reactions. Interplay of electronic, steric and orbital factors in determining the fates of organic reactions. Curved arrow convention is introduced.

Prerequisite: CHEM 102. Corequisite: CHEM 301L.
