Total Hours Required for Degree: 30 (Thesis Option) or 36 (Non-thesis Option)
|
Prerequisites
TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language): ≥ 75
OR IELTS (International English Language Testing System): ≥ 6.0
GRE (Graduate Record Examination): ≥ 300 (Quantitative + Verbal)
GPA (Grade Point Average): ≥ 3.0
Newly admitted graduate students are required to be seen by a graduate advisor prior to enrolling in graduate level engineering courses. All prerequisite and deficiencies in the student’s background for a particular concentration must be addressed by completing some or all of the leveling engineering, mathematics and/or physics courses listed below.
Background Courses
Must have sufficient background in the following courses:
- ELEN 220 - Networks I (Lec. 2. Lab. 3, Cr. 3)
- ELEN 260 - Digital Systems Design (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ELEN 261 - Digital Systems Design Laboratory (Lab. 3, Cr. 1)
- ELEN 304 - Networks II (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ELEN 340 - Introductory Electronics (Lec. 3, Lab. 3, Cr. 4)
- ELEN 362 - Microprocessing System Design (Lec. 2, Lab. 3, Cr. 3)
- ELEN 367 - Higher Level Languages in Digital Systems Design (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ELEN 410 - Communication Theory (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ELEN 424 - Computer Networking (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ELEN 455 - Electrical Power Systems Analysis (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ENGR 354 - Electric Machinery and Power Systems (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ENGR 430 - Systems and Control (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
Thesis Option
- CSCI, ELEN, ENGR, MATH, or STAT Elective (600 Level) - 3 hours
- CSCI, ELEN, ENGR, MATH, or STAT Electives (500/600 Level) - 6 hours
Non-Thesis Option
- CSCI, ELEN, ENGR, MATH, or STAT Electives (500/600 Level) - 12 hours
- CSCI, ELEN, ENGR, MATH, or STAT Electives (600 Level) - 9 hours
Notes:
- For thesis option, only 6 hours of CSCI, MATH, and STAT can be used. For non-thesis option, only 9 hours of CSCI, MATH, and STAT can be used.
- The courses taken must be approved by an advisor.
- For non-thesis option, students must also pass the Graduate Comprehensive Exam (GCE).
- Student must successfully pass GCE during the final semester. This GCE is based on topics presented in required courses.
- Student with unsatisfactory result in first attempt of GCE will be given a second exam within the same semester. Failure on the second attempt of GCE will result in additional courses recommended by the Electrical Engineering Graduate Committee.
- The third attempt of GCE is the final attempt and a failure in passing the GCE will result in failure to complete the Master of Engineering graduate requirements and student will not graduate from the program.
General Notes
- Credits applied must be earned within 6 calendar years from the time the student first enrolled in the program.
- No grade below C and not more than 6 credit hours of C work can be applied toward the degree.
- Only transfer credits with a grade of B or better may be applied toward the degree.
