Newly admitted graduate students are required to be seen by a graduate advisor prior to enrolling in graduate level engineering courses. All prerequisite and deficiencies in the student’s background for a particular concentration must be addressed by completing some or all of the leveling engineering, mathematics and/or physics courses listed below.
Background Courses
Must have sufficient background in the following courses:
- ENGR 201 - Statics (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ENGR 202 - Dynamics (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ENGR 205 - Strength of Materials (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ENGR 311 - Fluid Mechanics (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- ENGR 315 - Heat Transfer (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- MATH 190 - Calculus I (Lec. 3, Lab. 2, Cr. 4)
- MATH 291 - Calculus II (Lec. 3, Lab. 2, Cr. 4)
- MATH 292 - Multivariable Calculus (Lec. 4, Cr. 4)
- MATH 301 - Differential Equations (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- MEEN 321 - Dynamics of Machinery (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- MEEN 409 - Advanced Thermodynamics (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
- PHYS 211 - University Physics I (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
Thesis Option
- CSCI, ENGR, MATH, MEEN, or STAT Electives (500/600 Level) - 12 hours
- CSCI, ENGR, MATH, MEEN, or STAT Electives (600 Level) - 12 hours
Non-Thesis Option
- CSCI, ENGR, MATH, MEEN, or STAT Electives (500/600 Level) - 18 hours
- CSCI, ENGR, MATH, MEEN, or STAT Electives (600 Level) - 18 hours
Notes:
- For thesis option, only 6 hours of CSCI, MATH, and STAT can be used. For non-thesis option, only 9 hours of CSCI, MATH, and STAT can be used.
- The courses taken must be approved by an advisor.
- For non-thesis option, students must also pass the Graduate Comprehensive Exam (GCE).
- Student must successfully pass GCE during the final semester. This GCE is based on topics presented in required courses.
- Student with unsatisfactory result in first attempt of GCE will be given a second exam within the same semester. Failure on the second attempt of GCE will result in additional courses recommended by the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Committee.
- The third attempt of GCE is the final attempt and a failure in passing the GCE will result in failure to complete the Master of Engineering graduate requirements and student will not graduate from the program.
General Notes
- Credits applied must be earned within 6 calendar years from the time the student first enrolled in the program.
- No grade below C and not more than 6 credit hours of C work can be applied toward the degree.
- Only transfer credits with a grade of B or better may be applied toward the degree.
