Program Admission

A Post Baccalaureate Certificate in this area is available to students who apply and complete the courses listed below. No prerequisites are needed other than a baccalaureate degree. Official admission into the program is contingent upon meeting the requirements for EDUC 499.

• EDUC 499 - Entrance into the Non-Master’s Alternative Program
• MUED 226 - Introduction to Music Education in a Diverse Society (Lec. 3, Lab. 1, Cr. 3)
• MUED 320 - Teaching Music in Elementary School for Diverse Learners, Grades K-5 (Lec. 3, Lab.1, Cr. 3)
• MUED 326 - Teaching Vocal Music in Secondary School, Grades 6-12 (Lec. 3, Lab. 1, Cr. 3)
• MUED 414 - Teaching Choral Literature (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
• MUED 425 - Classroom Management and Organization in the Elementary/Secondary Music Education Classroom and Field Experience (Lec. 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)
• MUSC 410 - Choral Conducting (Lec. 2, Lab. 1, Cr. 2)
• PSYC 260 - Child Psychology (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
• PSYC 261 - Adolescent Psychology (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)

  Choose one of the following:

• EDUC 216 - Introduction to Teaching Reading (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)
• EDUC 333 - Methods and Materials in Reading for Secondary Teachers (Lec. 3, Cr. 3)

  Choose one of the following:

• EDUC 483S - Student Teaching Non-Master’s Alternative Certification (Lab. 12, Cr. 6)
• EDUC 485S - Internship Non-Master’s Alternative Certification (Lab. 6, Cr. 3)  (Must be repeated to accrue 6 credit hours)

Note

Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses applied to the certificate.
