History (B.A.)


All History majors must complete the degree requirements block (64 credit hours) and they must select a concentration block (56 credit hours) from the choices that follow. The History degree requires a minimum of 42 hours at the 300+ level.

Students must take twelve (12) hours of writing-enriched courses from three (3) different disciplines (including ENGL 101-102), plus twelve (12) hours of writing-enriched courses in History.

Notes


1Select three (3) Science electives from the General Education Core Curriculum  list. Two-semester sequence recommended. ENSC 102 suggested for Social Studies Education concentration area.
2History concentration: select from MATH 170 or STAT 231. Social Studies Education concentration: select from MATH 170, STATE 231, or MATH 122.
3Select from the General Education Core Curriculum  list of Fine Arts courses. Recommended for History concentration: Art History.
4History: select two (2) social science electives from the General Education Core Curriculum  list. Social Studies Education concentrations: select PSYC 211 and PSYC 311.
5History concentration: select six (6) history electives. At least five (5) must be upper-level. At least one must be writing-enriched. Social Studies Education concentration: select HIST 101-102 (or 121-122), HIST 301, HIST 330, and two (2) upper-level electives.

Notes


1Students are strongly encouraged to use their electives to pursue a minor (such as ENGL, FORL, PHIL) or to prepare for their future career goals (such as law school). Students cannot use more than eight hours of HHP courses as electives. Students cannot use more than eight (8) hours of HHP courses as electives. Students need to select enough upper-level electives to have a total of 42 hours of upper-level classes in their degree plan.

Social Studies Education, Grades 6-12 Concentration


 Total Hours: 56

This concentration requires a 2.5 overall GPA (required by the state) as well as no grade lower than a C in ENGL 101 and ENGL 102, all social studies content courses, and all professional education courses.
