The Elementary Education Grades 1-5, PBC program leads to initial teacher certification, accepts new students only in the fall semester, and is only offered 100% online. All teacher education preparation requirements must be satisfied for this certificate (see Teacher Education Preparation Portals ).

Program Admission
By meeting the general requirements for admission and the following prerequisites, applicants can enroll in Portal I courses: - Possess a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a USDOE-approved institutional accreditor; and
- Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.2 at the time of baccalaureate degree conferral.
In order to be formally admitted into a post-baccalaureate initial teacher certification program and progress toward Portal II courses, a candidate must meet the following requirements: - Pass the Praxis content-specific examination(s) in the content area(s) in which they are seeking certification.
- Complete, report, and submit all requirements of the EDUC 499 packet, including the Praxis content exam scores and a 2.50 program GPA. The packet must be completed prior to the semester in which the candidate is enrolled in EDUC 499. A prescription plan for the practitioner license (PL) will be provided after the EDUC 499 packet is approved.
This program does not accept applicants on a conditional basis. Term 1: Fall - 10 hours
Note: EDUC 216 requires 15 field experience hours, and EDUC 415 requires 10 field experience hours.
Term 2: Spring - 9 hours
Note: EDUC 316 requires 15 field experience hours, EDUC 353 requires 12 field experience hours, and EDUC 425 requires 20 field experience hours. Praxis subject exam(s) and Principles of Learning and Teaching exam must be passed prior to enrolling in EDUC 476E or EDUC 478E.
Term 3: Summer - 0 hours
Note: Praxis subject and PLT exams must be passed and submitted by the end of the semester enrolled in EDUC 400 and prior to enrollment in EDUC 476P or EDUC 478P. EDUC 400 and EDUC 499 are gateway/portal courses and, although they are zero credit hours, candidates must enroll and complete requirements for program progression during this time. Term 4: Fall - 7 hours
Note: EDUC 351 requires 10 field experience hours, and (EDUC 476E requires a minimum of 80% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 1-5 classroom completing residency hours, or EDUC 478E requires 100% of the instructional week in a grade 1-5 classroom as the teacher of record). Term 5: Spring - 7 hours
Note: EDUC 357 requires 10 field experience hours, and (EDUC 477E requires 80% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 1-5 classroom completing residency hours, or EDUC 479E requires 100% of the instructional week in a grade 1-5 classroom as the teacher of record). Note
Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses applied to the certificate. |
