Clinical Mental Health Counseling, MS

Clinical Mental Health Counseling, MS

Total Hours Required for Degree: 60

This is a 3.0 year, 8 semester program.

McNeese State University's Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program prepares master's level graduates to practice as counselors in community and clinical settings, including private and public agencies. This program provides the academic training and supervised experience necessary for graduates to apply for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Training emphasizes the development of evidence-based intervention skills.

The program requires completion of 60 credit hours in Clinical Mental Health Counseling coursework and a comprehensive exam. This is a non-thesis program that includes a practicum and internship. This experiential clinical requirement occurs over the course of four semesters. McNeese State University's Department of Psychology and Counseling has many off-campus practicum and internship sites for students to gain valuable experience while completing the Master of Science degree. The Kay Doré Counseling Clinic, a community counseling clinic, serves as a potential on-site practicum/internship opportunity for graduate students in the program. All students, regardless of site placement, are required to complete 10 indirect hours at the Kay Doré Counseling Clinic, during the practicum semester.
