Concentrations available in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics.

Prerequisites

In addition to the general requirements for admission to Graduate School, applicants for admission to the Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences program must meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum score of 1100 on the GRE formula (150 x undergraduate GPA + GRE [Verbal + Quantitative] score).
  • Calculus Sequence, Linear Algebra together with 12 hours of Mathematical Sciences at the junior/senior level and adequate preparation as determined by the head of the department. To determine deficiencies, the applicant may be required to take a placement test. The results of the test would determine additional required undergraduate course work.

Core Courses

  • Approved electives in concentration - Thesis 6/Non Thesis - 12
  • Approved electives in Mathematical Sciences or approved related discipline - Thesis 6/Non Thesis - 12

Totals: Thesis 30/Non Thesis 36

Notes

At least half of the number of courses taken in either the thesis or the non-thesis program must be courses numbered above 600. Also, a candidate is required to pass satisfactorily a comprehensive written examination and/or oral examination on the courses taken for graduate credit. Students concentrating in Computer Science, who have deficiencies in their Computing Science background, must take Computing Science 504 and/or Computing Science 507. Neither of these courses counts toward the Master of Science Degree.
