Art, Printmaking/Art Education Grades K-12 Concentration, BA


Total Hours Required for Degree:  122

The Bachelor of Arts in Art with a concentration in Printmaking/Art Education Grades K-12 leads to initial teacher certification. All teacher education preparation requirements must be satisfied for this degree.

Teacher Education Requirements


Must achieve one of the following:

  • ACT ≥ 22;
  • SAT ≥ 1100 combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math; or
  • Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (pass all three):
    • Reading (#5712) with a score ≥ 156.
    • Writing (#5722) with a score ≥ 162.
    • Mathematics (#5732) with a score ≥ 150.

Always check with your advisor concerning test numbers and passing scores as they are subject to change.

Teacher Education Requirements


EDUC 200 packet must be approved prior to enrolling in EDUC 300/400 level courses.

The Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): Grades K-6 (#5622), Grades 5-9 (#5623), or Grades 7-12 (#5624) exam and Praxis Art: Content Knowledge exam (#5134) must be passed prior to enrolling in ARED 470.

Non-education courses taken during residency semesters must be scheduled either in the evening or online.

Senior Fall - 12 hours


Note:  EDUC 351 requires 10 field experience hours, EDUC 469 requires 20 field experience hours, and ARED 470 requires a minimum of 60% of the instructional week in an assigned grade K-12 classroom completing residency hours.

Senior Spring - 10 hours


Note:  ARED 472 requires 100% of the instructional week in an assigned grade K-12 classroom completing residency hours.

Students must earn a grade of C or better in ENGL 101,  ENGL 102, and MATH 113, as well as in all ARED, ART, EDUC, PSYC, and SPED courses.

General Notes


  • All bachelor’s degrees must include 40 hours at the 300/400 level.
  • All bachelor’s degrees require at least one life science course and one physical science course from the Natural Sciences area of the General Education Core Curriculum .
