Total Hours Required for Degree: 132
The Bachelor of Music in Music with a concentration in Music Education-Instrumental Grades K-12 leads to initial teacher certification. All teacher education preparation requirements must be satisfied for this degree.

Freshman Spring - 19 hours
Note: MUED 226 requires 10 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
Must achieve one of the following:
- ACT ≥ 22;
- SAT ≥ 1100 combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math; or
- Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (pass all three):
- Reading (#5712) with a score ≥ 156.
- Writing (#5722) with a score ≥ 162.
- Mathematics (#5732) with a score ≥ 150.
Always check with your advisor concerning test numbers and passing scores as they are subject to change.
Sophomore Fall - 17 hours
Note: EDUC 203 requires 10 field experience hours Teacher Education Requirements
EDUC 200 packet must be approved prior to enrolling in EDUC 300/400 level courses.
Sophomore Spring - 19 hours
Note: EDUC 337 and MUED 320 require 15 field experience hours each. Junior Fall - 18 hours
Note: MUED 324 requires 15 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
The Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): Grades K-6 (#5622), Grades 5-9 (#5623), or Grades 7-12 (#5624) exam and Praxis Music: Content Knowledge exam (#5113) must be passed prior to enrolling in MUED 470.
Junior Spring - 18 hours
Note: MUED 425 requires 40 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
Non-education courses taken during residency semesters must be scheduled either in the evening or online. Senior Fall - 16 hours
Note: EDUC 351 requires 10 field experience hours, EDUC 469 requires 20 field experience hours, and MUED 470 requires a minimum of 60% of the instructional week in an assigned grade K-12 classroom completing residency hours. Senior Spring - 11 hours

- For MUAI, students may choose from the following: baritone, bassoon, cello, clarinet, flute, french horn, harp, oboe, percussion, string bass, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, tuba, viola, or violin.
- For Major Ensemble Electives, students must enroll in MUSC 380, MUSC 390, MUSC 396, or MUSC 487 for six terms. Only one credit of major ensemble electives may be applied to degree requirements each semester. If major instrument is stringed, then the student must take MUSC 396 for six semesters. If major instrument is woodwind, brass, or percussion, then the student must take MUSC 390 for three fall semesters and MUSC 380 or MUSC 487 for three spring semesters.
- Students must earn a grade of C or better in ENGL 101, ENGL 102, and (MATH 113 or MATH 170), as well as in all EDUC, MUAI, MUED, MUSC, PIAN, PSYC, and SPED courses.
General Notes
- All bachelor’s degrees must include 40 hours at the 300/400 level.
- All bachelor’s degrees require at least one life science course and one physical science course from the Natural Sciences area of the General Education Core Curriculum .
