Secondary Education Grades 6-12 [Environmental Science], PBC


Total Hours Required for Certificate:  33

The Secondary Education Grades 6-12 [Environmental Science], PBC program leads to initial teacher certification, accepts new students only in the fall semester, and is only offered 100% online. All teacher education preparation requirements must be satisfied for this certificate (see Teacher Education Preparation Portals ).

Program Admission


By meeting the general requirements for admission and the following prerequisites, applicants can enroll in Portal I courses:

  • Possess a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a USDOE-approved institutional accreditor; and
  • Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 at the time of baccalaureate degree conferral.

Official admission into the program is contingent upon meeting the requirements for EDUC 499.

This program does not accept applicants on a conditional basis.

Term 1: Fall - 6 hours


Note:  EDUC 203 and EDUC 204 require 10 field experience hours each.

EDUC 499 packet must be approved prior to enrolling in EDUC and SPED 300/400 level courses.

Term 4: Fall - 8 hours


Note:  EDUC 351 requires 10 field experience hours, EDUC 469 requires 20 field experience hours, and (EDUC 460S requires a minimum of 60% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 6-12 classroom completing residency hours, or EDUC 462S requires 100% of the instructional week in a grade 6-12 classroom as the teacher of record).

Term 5: Spring - 6 hours


Note:  SPED 444 requires 20 field experience hours, and (EDUC 461S requires 100% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 6-12 classroom completing residency hours, or EDUC 463S requires 100% of the instructional week in a grade 6-12 classroom as the teacher of record).

Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses applied to the certificate.
