Total Hours Required for Degree: 120
A Bachelor of General Studies degree with a concentration in technical communication emphasizes evidence-based approaches. It imparts necessary skills in writing, designing, and computer science while encouraging students to develop broad-based content knowledge in particular STEM fields. It strategically moves a student through a balanced curriculum of courses in STEM and the humanities so that students can make technical concepts understandable and use technology to make information useable. Technical communicators develop content for marketing high-tech products, become user experience professionals, write proposals for potential business customers and instructions for software developers, create technical manuals for industries, and serve as excellent project managers who facilitate collaboration among a company’s various stakeholders. Students cannot pursue the BGS concurrently with another baccalaureate degree. Students who wish to pursue the BGS as a second degree will not be permitted to apply the major hours from the primary degree to the concentration area in the General Studies curriculum.
The General Studies, Technical Writing Concentration, BGS program is offered both face-to-face and 100% online.
