Total Hours Required for Degree: 120 The Health and Physical Education Grades K-12, BS program leads to initial teacher certification. All teacher education preparation requirements must be satisfied for this degree, and a secondary teaching area is recommended.

Teacher Education Requirements
Must achieve one of the following: - ACT ≥ 20;
- SAT ≥ 1050 combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math; or
- Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (pass all three):
- Reading (#5713) with a score ≥ 156.
- Writing (#5723) with a score ≥ 162.
- Mathematics (#5733) with a score ≥ 150.
Always check with your advisor concerning test numbers and passing scores as they are subject to change. Freshman Spring - 17 hours
Note: EDUC 204 and HHP 200 require 10 field experience hours each. Teacher Education Requirements
EDUC 200 packet must be approved prior to enrolling in EDUC and SPED 300/400 level courses. Sophomore Fall - 18 hours
Note: EDUC 203 requires 10 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
The Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): Grades K-6 (#5622), Grades 5-9 (#5623), or Grades 7-12 (#5624) exam must be passed prior to enrolling in HHP 470. Sophomore Spring - 17 hours
Note: EDUC 222 requires 5 field experience hours, and EDUC 333 requires 15 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
The Praxis Health and Physical Education: Content Knowledge exam (#5857) must be passed prior to enrolling in HHP 470.
Junior Fall - 14 hours
Note: HHP 340 requires 15 field experience hours, and HHP 343 requires 30 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
Candidates must enroll in EDUC 300 the semester prior to enrolling in Student Teaching Residency I. The Praxis PLT and the Praxis content exams must be passed by the end of the semester in which the candidate is registered for EDUC 300.
Junior Spring - 15 hours
Note: EDUC 410 or EDUC 412 requires 20 field experience hours, and HHP 450 requires 30 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
Non-education courses taken during residency semesters must be scheduled either in the evening or online. Senior Fall - 12 hours
Note: EDUC 351 requires 10 field experience hours, EDUC 469 requires 20 field experience hours, and HHP 470 requires a minimum of 60% of the instructional week in an assigned grade K-12 classroom completing residency hours. Senior Spring - 10 hours
Note: HHP 472 requires 100% of the instructional week in an assigned grade K-12 classroom completing residency hours. Note
Students must earn a grade of C or better in EDTC 245, ENGL 101, ENGL 102, and MATH 113, as well as in all EDUC, HHP, PSYC, and SPED courses. General Notes
- All bachelor’s degrees must include 40 hours at the 300/400 level.
- All bachelor’s degrees require the successful completion of at least nine hours of Natural Sciences General Education Core Curriculum courses. Six hours shall be earned in a single life or physical science; the remaining three hours must be earned in a natural science area other than that previously selected (both life and physical sciences must be taken to fulfill this requirement).
