School Counseling, MS

Total Hours Required for Degree: 60

McNeese State University’s Master of Science in School Counseling program prepares master’s level graduates to function as school counselors within elementary, junior, and high schools with students, parents, teachers, and administrators. This program offers specialized training in helping students navigate emotional and interpersonal challenges and advising on academic issues. It also provides the academic training necessary to apply for licensure as a School Counselor. Training prepares graduates to work in any K-12 environment.

The student is required to complete 44 hours of core credits (shared with the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program) and 16 credit hours specific to School Counseling for a total of 60 credit hours. This is a non-thesis program that includes a practicum and internship. McNeese State University’s Department of Psychology and Counseling has many off-campus practicum and internship sites for students to gain valuable experience while completing the Master of Science degree.
