The College of Nursing and Health Professions is composed of the Department of Graduate Nursing , Department of Psychology , Department of Radiologic and Medical Laboratory Sciences , and the Department of Undergraduate Nursing , as well as the Bachelor of Science in Health Systems Management Program . The College of Nursing and Health Professions also includes the Kay Doré Counseling Clinic and the McNeese Autism Program. Curricula leading to the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Arts, Master of Science in Nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees, as well as a Graduate Certificate and Post-Master’s Cerificate, are listed on the appropriate departmental pages, along with specific departmental requirements.
Mission
The mission of the College of Nursing and Health Professions is to prepare healthcare professionals to provide direct or indirect care to meet the healthcare needs of individuals, families, populations, and systems.
Community Healthcare Center
The mission of the Community Healthcare Center is to improve the well-being and productivity of the community-in particular, under-served populations through primary care, prevention, and health promotion. Using nursing models of health, the Community Healthcare Center serves as a clinical site for faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students.
Kay Doré Counseling Clinic (KDCC)
The Kay Doré Counseling Clinic (KDCC) was established in 2001 through a grant from the William and Kay Doré Foundation and serves as an educational and best-practices professional training site for students in the Department of Psychology. Through its programs, the KDCC provides behavioral health services to adults and children in Southwest Louisiana through an on-site clinic and off-site locations in the community. KDCC programs include: (1) the Counseling Services Program, which provides low-cost counseling services; and (2) the McNeese Gambling Treatment Program, which provides free treatment services for individuals diagnosed with problem or compulsive gambling. The KDCC is staffed by nationally board-certified and licensed professional staff, who supervise master’s level practicum and internship students. The KDCC collaborates with local partners to promote mental health and wellness and related public awareness throughout the community, region, and state.
McNeese Autism Program
The McNeese Autism Program (MAP) was launched in 2008. The MAP provides applied behavior analysis (ABA) services to children, adolescents, and adults throughout Southwest Louisiana and is the only University-based clinic linked to an internationally-accredited master’s level psychology program in ABA in Louisiana. The MAP offers a feeding clinic and school readiness programs for children, interventions for high-intensity behaviors, and special initiatives aimed at helping individuals, parents, and families navigate developmental transitions across the lifespan. The MAP is staffed by a team of state-licensed, board-certified behavior analysts who closely collaborate with psychology faculty to equip graduate students preparing for careers as behavior analysts as well as those interested in pursuing advanced studies, research, and professional practice opportunities.
