Environmental and Chemical Sciences-Chemistry Concentration

Total Hours Required for Degree:  31 (Thesis Option) or 37 (Non-thesis Option)

Prerequisites


In addition to the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School, applicants for admission to the Master of Science in Environmental and Chemical Sciences program must meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum score of 1100 on the GRE formula (150 x undergraduate GPA + GRE [verbal+quantitative] score).
  • Bachelor of Science degree in one of the sciences (or science education) and adequate preparation for a particular concentration as determined by the admissions committee and/or coordinator for the degree program.

Thesis Option


  • Advisor-Approved CHEM Courses - 12 hours
  • Advisor-Approved AGRI, AGRO, ANSC, ENSC, NRCM, or WMGT Courses - 9 hours

Non-Thesis Option


  • Advisor-Approved CHEM Courses - 15 hours
  • Advisor-Approved AGRI, AGRO, ANSC, ENSC, NRCM, or WMGT Courses - 12 hours
  • Electives (Any Discipline; 500/600 Level) - 6 hours

Notes:


  • Only six (6) credit hours of transfer credit will be applied to the degree.
  • All courses applied toward the degree must be approved by the major professor and the coordinator of the program.
  • At least half the number of credits applied toward the degree, excluding thesis credit, must be in courses numbered above 600. Also, a candidate is required to satisfactorily pass a comprehensive written and/or oral examination.
  • Students who have background deficiencies may be required to take leveling courses that will not apply toward the Master of Science degree.

General Notes


  • Credits applied must be earned within 6 calendar years from the time the student first enrolled in the program.
  • No grades below ‘C’ and not more than 6 credit hours of ‘C’ work can be applied toward the degree.
  • Only transfer credits with a grade of ‘B’ or better may be applied toward the degree.
