The Chemistry, Chemistry Education Grades 6-12 Concentration, BS program leads to initial teacher certification. All teacher education preparation requirements must be satisfied for this degree.

Freshman Spring - 16 hours
Note: EDUC 204 requires 10 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
Must achieve one of the following:
- ACT ≥ 22;
- SAT ≥ 1100 combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math; or
- Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (pass all three):
- Reading (#5713) with a score ≥ 156.
- Writing (#5723) with a score ≥ 162.
- Mathematics (#5733) with a score ≥ 150.
Always check with your advisor concerning test numbers and passing scores as they are subject to change.
Sophomore Fall - 15 hours
Note: EDUC 203 requires 10 field experience hours. Teacher Education Requirements
EDUC 200 packet must be approved prior to enrolling in EDUC and SPED 300/400 level courses. Sophomore Spring - 17 hours
Note: EDUC 333 requires 15 field experience hours. Junior Fall - 16 hours
Note: EDUC 403 and EDUC 412 require 20 field experience hours each. Teacher Education Requirements
The Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): Grades 7-12 exam (#5624) and Praxis Chemistry: Content Knowledge exam (#5245) must be passed prior to enrolling in EDUC 470S.
Junior Spring - 17 hours
Note: EDUC 440 and SPED 444 require 20 field experience hours each. Teacher Education Requirements
Non-education courses taken during residency semesters must be scheduled either in the evening or online. Senior Fall - 12 hours
Note: EDUC 351 requires 10 field experience hours, EDUC 469 requires 20 field experience hours, and EDUC 470S requires a minimum of 60% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 6-12 classroom completing residency hours. Senior Spring - 10 hours
Note: EDUC 472S requires 100% of the instructional week in an assigned grade 6-12 classroom completing residency hours. Note
Students must earn a grade of C or better in EDTC 245, ENGL 101, ENGL 102, and (MATH 113 or MATH 170), as well as in all CHEM, EDUC, PSYC, and SPED courses. General Notes
- All bachelor’s degrees must include 40 hours at the 300/400 level.
- All bachelor’s degrees require at least one life science course and one physical science course from the Natural Sciences area of the General Education Core Curriculum .
