Nursing, LPN to BSN, BSN


Total Hours Required for Degree: 120

Program Requirements


In order to be admitted into the Nursing, LPN to BSN program, students:

  1. Must meet all University admission requirements;
  2. Must have graduated from a state-approved licensed practical nursing (LPN)/licensed vocational nursing (LVN) program;
  3. Must have a current unencumbered LPN/LVN license or permit to practice;
  4. Must have completed one year (2080 hours) of full-time work experience in an acute care setting (medical/surgical units) prior to acceptance into clinical nursing courses;
  5. Must sit for and obtain a passing score on the LPN Mobility Exam; and
  6. Anatomy and physiology courses may not be older than five years at the time of clinical acceptance.

Advanced Placement - 8 hours


Graduates from an accredited Louisiana or out-of-state LPN or LVN nursing program who currently possess an active unencumbered LPN or LVN license will be awarded eight credit hours of advanced placement for NURS 310 and NURS 327.

Students must earn a grade of C or better in ALL courses applied to the degree.

General Notes


  • All bachelor’s degrees must include 40 hours at the 300/400 level.
  • All bachelor’s degrees require the successful completion of at least nine hours of Natural Sciences General Education Core Curriculum  courses. Six hours shall be earned in a single life or physical science; the remaining three hours must be earned in a natural science area other than that previously selected (both life and physical sciences must be taken to fulfill this requirement).
