History (B.A.)

All History majors must complete the degree requirements block (64 credit hours) and they must select a concentration block (56 credit hours) from the choices that follow. The History degree requires a minimum of 45 hours at the 300+ level.

Notes


1Science requirements must include biological and physical (or geological) sciences, of which 6 hours must be in the same area, with a two-semester sequence recommended. ENSC 102 suggested for Social Studies Education concentration area.
2Two of the courses used to satisfy the math and sciences requirements must be writing enriched.
3MATH 122, 223 may only be used by studetns pursuing the Social Studies Education concentration.
4Any ART, MUSC, or THEA course that meets the General Education Requirements  may be used.
5Students pursuing the Social Studies Education concentration must select PSYC 211 and PSYC 311.
6At least 5 history electives must be upper-level courses. At least 3 upper-level history courses must be writing-enriched. Students pursuing the Social Studies Educaton concentration must take HIST 301 and HIST 330.

Notes


1Upper-level course useful for improving reading, writing, or conversational skills (such as ENGL, COMM, or FORL). 
2Students are strongly encouraged to use their electives to pursue a minor (such as ENGL, FORL, PHIL) or to prepare for their future career goals (such as law school).

1Prerequisite for EDUC 200 also includes passing scores on Praxis I: Reading, Writing, and Math (see catalog for minimum scores) or composite scores of 22+ on ACT or 1020+ on SAT.
2Many education courses also include field experience hours in addition to coursework.
3Recommended: SPED 352 and an Anthropology course.
4Prerequisite for EDUCA 468S includes passing scores sest by the state for Praxis II Social Studies Content, Praxis II Social Studies Interpretation of Materials, and Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching.
