The College of Business is composed of the Department of Business Disciplines . The College of Business also includes two service centers: the H.C. Drew Center for Business and Economic Analysis and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center. Curricula leading to the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees as well as an Undergraduate Certificate are listed on the departmental page, along with specific departmental requirements.

The College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Admission and Retention

First-time freshmen who have declared a major offered by the College of Business are advised by professional advisors in the Office of Advising  until a minimum of 12 hours and a cumulative 2.5 GPA are earned. Regardless of major, students with less than a 2.5 GPA are advised in the Office of Advising until 24 hours are earned; students are then advised in the College of Business.

To progress through the degree plan, students must complete courses in the catalog in effect when the student first registered in a College of Business program.

Transfer Students

Upper-level courses (numbered 300 and above) normally have prerequisites and are designated to be taken at the junior or senior level. Courses taken at other institutions prior to the junior year or without the proper prerequisites required by the College of Business may not be automatically considered to meet McNeese requirements. Upper-level transfer courses can be validated by passing a challenge examination or, in some cases, by earning a grade of C or better in an advanced course in the same subject. Such advanced courses, when applicable, will be determined by the associate dean and/or dean. Business courses taken at community or junior colleges may not transfer into the College of Business as an upper-level course.

College of Business Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree Programs

In addition to the specific requirements established for each bachelor’s degree program, all College of Business students:

  • Must earn a grade of C or better in ACCT 208, ENGL 101, ENGL 102, MATH 130, MGMT 300, MGMT 481, and MKTG 320 (may not be used as prerequisites unless a grade of C or better has been earned);
  • Must meet the requirements listed in the Degree and Graduation Requirements  section of the Academic Regulations page of the catalog;
  • Must meet the requirements listed on the General Education Core Curriculum  page of the catalog; and
  • Must complete the following business core courses in their programs: ACCT 208, BADM 201, BADM 275, BADM 318, BADM 374, ECON 203, ECON 204, FIN 310, MGMT 300, MGMT 370, MGMT 481, and MKTG 320.

H.C. Drew Center for Business and Economic Analysis

The H.C. Drew Center for Business and Economic Analysis is co-sponsored by the College of Business and the H.C. Drew Endowment for Economic Development. The center collects and disseminates economic development information and data specifically pertaining to the economy of Southwest Louisiana. The center maintains an economic development database that includes information on population, employment and unemployment, wages and salaries, cost-of-living measures, taxable sales, and other regional economic indicators. The database is used to gauge the current status of the regional economy and identify areas of strength and weakness and emerging future trends. Regional economic development information is disseminated electronically and through community economic development conferences and specialized workshops. The center also partners with the SWLA Economic Development Alliance to answer general questions, complete requests for information, and answer media inquiries. The center also puts out the Southwest Louisiana Economic Intel Podcast. The center’s database and materials can be accessed at mcneesedrewecon.org.

Louisiana Small Business Development Center at McNeese State University

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC), a collaborative initiative between the College of Business, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, serves as a cornerstone for fostering the growth and vitality of small enterprises. Established with the mission to provide comprehensive support and resources, the LSBDC offers a diverse array of services tailored to the unique needs of small businesses.

Primarily, the LSBDC delivers expert business consulting and specialized training services, covering pivotal areas such as business planning, financial management, marketing and sales strategies, operational efficiency, and various other crucial aspects of business development.

In alignment with its overarching objective of driving economic prosperity and entrepreneurship, the LSBDC plays a pivotal role in facilitating job creation and fostering sustainable business growth. Through its meticulous guidance and wealth of expertise, the center empowers small businesses from a multitude of industries to navigate challenges and seize opportunities in the competitive market landscape.

The training programs offered by the LSBDC are meticulously crafted to equip small businesses with the requisite skills, knowledge, and resources essential for their success in today’s dynamic business environment. By delivering targeted and accessible training initiatives, the center contributes significantly to the long-term viability and prosperity of the entrepreneurs it serves.

Operating within the esteemed College of Business, the LSBDC leverages the academic prowess and student resources of McNeese State University to provide unparalleled counseling and assistance to its clientele. Additionally, the center boasts a comprehensive resource library, offering invaluable insights into business management practices, while also guiding clients in accessing relevant information from both state and national sources.
