Creative Writing (M.F.A.)

Prerequisites


In addition to the general requirements for admission to Graduate School, applicants for admission to the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program must meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum score of 1100 on the GRE formula (150 x undergraduate GPA + GRE [Verbal + Quantitative] score).
  • Adequate preparation as determined by the head of the department and the major professor—Students should submit a selection of 15 to 20 poems, several short stories, or a few chapters from a novel with a letter of application to the head of the department.

Requirements


Total Hours: 60

One half of the total number of hours required for the degree shall be in courses open to graduate students only.

  • Thesis - 6
    (Novel or collection of short stories or poems)
  • Graduate English Electives - 27
