General Studies, Behavioral Sciences Concentration, BGS

Total Hours Required for Degree: 120

The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) with a concentration in Behavioral Sciences is a broad based, interdisciplinary program that offers students the opportunity to develop critical thinking and cultural awareness through an individualized course of study. Students cannot pursue the BGS concurrently with another baccalaureate degree. Students who wish to pursue the BGS as a second degree will not be permitted to apply the major hours from the primary degree to the concentration area in the General Studies curriculum.

The General Studies, Behavioral Sciences Concentration, BGS program is offered both face-to-face and 100% online.

Subject Area Blocks

The Behavioral Sciences Block will be used as the Concentration Area. The two remaining blocks must be used as Enrichment Areas. 

Applied and Natural Sciences Block

Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Health Systems Management, Mathematics, Medical Laboratory Science, Natural Resource Conservation Management, Nursing, Nursing: RN to BSN, Nutrition and Food Science, Physical Science, Physics, Radiologic Sciences, Statistics, Wildlife Management

Arts and Humanities Block

Art, Art Education, Communication, English, Foreign Languages, French, German, Greek, History, Humanities, Latin, Mass Communication, Music, Music: Applied Instrument Study, Music: Applied Piano Study, Music: Applied Voice Study, Music Education, Philosophy, Piano, Religious Studies, Spanish, Theatre, Women’s Studies

No more than eight (8) hours of Music Ensemble and Music Performance  courses may be applied to the BGS.

Behavioral

No more than eight (8) hours of KNES Activity  courses may be applied to the BGS.

  • Behavioral Sciences Electives - 18 hours
  • Behavioral Sciences Electives (300/400 Level) - 18 hours

Additional Requirements - 42 hours


  • Applied and Natural Sciences Elective (300/400 Level) - 3 hours
  • Applied and Natural Sciences Electives - 9 hours
  • Arts and Humanities Elective (300/400 Level) - 3 hours
  • Arts and Humanities Electives - 9 hours
  • Elective - 3 hours
  • Electives (300/400 Level) - 15 hours

Notes


  • No more than 8 credit hours of KNES Activity  courses will be applied toward the degree.
  • No more than 8 credit hours of Music Ensemble and Music Performance  courses will be applied toward the degree.
  • No more than 27 credit hours of ACCT, BADM, ECON, ENTR, FIN, MGMT, or MKTG courses will be applied toward the degree.
  • Students must earn a grade of C or better in GNST 400 (capstone course).
  • Students must earn a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in all courses applied toward the degree.
  • Students must earn a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in the concentration block.

General Notes


  • All bachelor’s degrees must include 40 hours at the 300/400 level.
  • All bachelor’s degrees require the successful completion of at least nine hours of Natural Sciences General Education Core Curriculum  courses. Six hours shall be earned in a single life or physical science; the remaining three hours must be earned in a natural science area other than that previously selected (both life and physical sciences must be taken to fulfill this requirement).
