Bachelor of General Studies
The Bachelor degree in General Studies with concentrations in Arts and Humanities, Applied and Natural Sciences, and Behavioral Sciences is a broad based, interdisciplinary program that offers students the opportunity to develop critical thinking and cultural awareness through an individualized course of study. Students who wish to pursue this degree concurrently with another degree or as a second degree will not be permitted to apply the major hours from the primary degree to the concentration area in the General Studies curriculum.
Subject Area Blocks
Students pursuing the Bachelor degree in General Studies must choose one of the following blocks for the Concentration Area. The two remaining blocks must be used as Enrichment Areas.

Students who wish to pursue the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) must meet the following requirements:
- Must earn a GPA of 2.0 or better in all courses counted toward the degree.
- Must earn at least 40 hours of 300/400 level coursework and meet the following conditions:
- Must earn at least 12 hours of 300/400 level coursework in the concentration area.
- Must earn a grade of “C” or better in GNST 400 (Capstone Course).

1Students must complete nine (9) hours of Natural Sciences. Six (6) hours shall be earned in a single life or physical science; the remaining three (3) hours must be earned in a natural science other than that previously selected. Both life and physical science must be represented.
- Life Sciences: BIOL 101, 102, 105, 106, 201, 225, 226; ENSC 101, 102. (No duplicate credit for BIOL 101 and BIOL 105; no duplicate credit for BIOL 102 and BIOL 106)
- Physical Sciences: CHEM 101, 102, 120, 135, 136; ENCS 101, 102; GEOL 101, 102; PHSC 101, 102; PHYS 151, 211, 212.
2Students may not use pedagogical mathematics (MATH 122 or MATH 223) to satisfy the mathematics elective.
